Trump 2 – Negoziati commerciali tra Usa e Cina si svolgeranno nel fine settimana a Ginevra in Svizzera: sarà la prima trattativa fra i due Paesi da quando il presidente Usa Donald Trump ha innescato una vera e propria guerra commerciale, imponendo dazi che attualmente sono del 145% sull’export della Cina verso gli Usa e del 125% sull’export degli Usa Verso la Cina, salvo eccezioni settoriali.
La delegazione statunitense sarà guidata dal segretario al Tesoro Scott Bessent e dal responsabile del commercio internazionale Jamieson Greer. Nell’analisi del Washington Post, le conversazioni “mirano a raffreddare le tensioni, dopo che entrambe le parti, avvertendo l’impatto dei super-dazi reciprocamente imposti, hanno ammorbidito la loro retorica”.
Trump 2: Usa-Canada, premier Carney nello Studio Ovale
L’incontro, ieri, nello Studio Ovale tra il presidente Trump e il neo-confermato premier canadese Mark Carney, vincitore delle elezioni di fine aprile, è stato apparentemente cordiale, ma con toni molto fermi da parte canadese. Il premier Carney, di fronte all’ennesimo riferimento fatto da Trump a un inglobamento del Canada nell’Unione, è stato chiaro e netto: “Ci sono posti che non sono e non saranno mai in vendita, come lei ben sa dalla sua esperienza di imprenditore immobiliare”.
Ma Trump non ha mollato: “Mai dire mai”, pur ammettendo che “bisogna essere in due per danzare il tango”. Nonostante segnali di cordialità, i due non hanno fatto passi indietro sulle loro differenze nella guerra commerciale che – scrive l’Ap – “ha compromesso decenni di fiducia fra i due Paesi”.
Trump 2: migranti, Washington chiede aiuto … a Tripoli e a Kiev
Sul fronte migranti, due notizie entrambe sorprendenti: il New York Times scrive che Trump progetta di spedire in Libia con aerei militari migranti che sono senza documenti negli Stati Uniti, come ha già fatto verso il Venezuela e El Salvador.
Sarebbe una brusca escalation dei programmi di deportazione che hanno già sollevato contenziosi e un intenso dibattito politico. E gli italiani sanno bene che cosa significa per i migranti essere reclusi in Libia.
Più stupefacente ancora: il Washington Post scrive che gli Stati Uniti hanno esercitato pressioni sull’Ucraina perché il Paese in guerra accetti di accogliere migranti deportati. Il che fa dubitare che l’Amministrazione Trump percepisca altre priorità che le proprie.
Trump 2: Ap, Pro-Palestinian demonstrators clash with security guards at Columbia University
(AP) – Police officers in helmets streamed into Columbia University Wednesday evening to remove a group of mask-clad protesters who staged a Pro-Palestinian demonstration inside the school’s main library. Recent developments:
• Police said at least 80 people had been taken into custody, though it wasn’t clear how many came from the demonstration inside the library and how many were outside the building.
• The university’s acting president, Claire Shipman, said the protesters who were holed up inside a library reading room were asked repeatedly to show identification and to leave, but they refused. The school then requested the NYPD come in “to assist in securing the building and the safety of our community,” she said in a statement. Shipman said two university public safety officers sustained injuries as protesters forced their way into the building.
• Columbia University in March announced sweeping policy changes related to protests following Trump administration threats to revoke its federal funding. Among them are a ban on students wearing masks to conceal their identities and a rule that those protesting on campus must present their identification when asked. The school also said it had hired new public safety officers empowered to make arrests on campus.
Trump 2: Cnn, thousands of protesters in response to actions on immigration
(Cnn) – Thousands of protesters rallied across the US in response to the Trump administration’s actions on immigration, the war in Gaza, federal workers and unions. The demonstrators, who were organized under the banner of the grassroots “50501” movement, filled the streets of major cities and small towns holding signs and calling for change.
“Trump has poor and working-class people forgetting who our enemies are. Our enemies are not international students that organize on their campus. Our enemies are not undocumented workers that contribute to their communities, that pay taxes and can’t get services. Our enemies are not workers that work for corporations,” an organizer said to a large crowd gathered in New York City’s Union Square. “No — this racist, sexist, anti-worker, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic system is our enemy.” More demonstrations are scheduled to take place on Saturday.
